It varies day to day, but I think jigs and minnows average out about even. I like to have one pole out with a minnow under a slip bobber while I cast a jig on another. Sometimes I tip with a minnow, sometimes not.

Dead minnows work's good night fishing.

Littlejohn you are correct if you have white bass schooling crappie will feed on the dead shad fall under the white bass and a dead minnow works best it this time. I have seen this in the daytime also.

I like jigs the best, but I always carry minnows, let the fish tell me what they want.
I haven't fished with minnows in a while, I totally jigs now but back when I used minnows I didn't cull the dead ones and they were easier to catch out of the bucket and put on a hook. Once when I ran out of minnows I caught 3 fish on my last one and that's the truth as best I can tell it
