    Used mine like that for 6 months no problem other that a few scratches from letting it hit some rocks in some wind.

    Use one for years the same way, no problem, just be careful in shallow rocky areas. Also don't for get to add a foot or two to your depth reading depending on how deep you have your trolling motor set.

    Looks good. They also make a shield that can mount in front of the transducer if you're concerned.

    Looks great and should serve you well. If you fish laydowns like I do, you might want to consider a guard as Bob indicates.
