Default Fishing Report, Weiss, 24 Feb 2017

Tough day today. Perhaps my fishing bud and I are stuck in a rut - we only managed 15 keepers today. We pushed jigs and we vertical jigged - got more strikes vertical jigging - sometimes casting and letting it fall into the fish. Strange thing, we could find fish and when we came back around, they were gone; phantom fish. After working the 20-24 FOW depths, we moved in to 8 FOW and didn't do any better. Maybe they are moving further upstream toward spawning grounds. I dunno.

I did get a chance to talk with the guy behind the cash register at Little River Marina and he said they had checked in 5 money fish thus far. He also said most of the money fish were taken by clients of the guides. He also said the guides average about 1 money fish per day. Not saying anything bad here, just the facts. Also, the tag colors are key to the payout. Pink tags pay $50/fish and the yellow tags are the real money fish ($1000 and $10,000). So if you catch a money fish, head to the dock because they must be presented alive.

Great report. Thanks. Seems there a number of mixed catches across Northern AL right now. It's not you. Stay after it.

We will. But sometimes I wonder if we get too fixated on how we caught them the last time out and forget to be flexible.

You nailed it. The fish will tell you what they want with a bit if experimenting. Have fun!

I was on Weiss today also and ended up with 48. The lake is about a week away from going full prespawn/spawn. The fish are really moving as the coldest water temp that I found today was 61. The deep fish are there but they are not aggressive at all. That will all change in the next 2 weeks. The fish are on the move don't get locked down in one spot as they may leave the area entirely in one afternoon.
