Fishing bud and I planned a trip to Weiss to get our share of those limits the guides are posting up. Weather, starting out, couldn't be better. We got on the water, after a great breakfast at Little River Marina, just as the light was coming up. When we got to the cove to fish, we were boat #9 in the line-up - several guides there along with other folks trolling and pushing. We begin searching for fish as they were in tight schools. We began to catch nice fish using our technique which I"ll explain later. As we were filling our live well, the wind started kicking up and around noon it was just too much for us. We packed it in with 37 nice keepers in the live well.
The other fishermen were a pleasure to fish with. Everyone was respectful of other boats and where they were fishing. No incidents or short nerves fishing in a tight space. We shared info with other boats to help them and they did the same. Conditions; water temp hovering around 50F with the wind making it much colder. Started out overcast and ended up with sun. Most of the fish were in 20-24 FOW and stacked up at least 8 feet tall.
Okay, our technique - we trolled around till we found a school. Noting the depths they were at, we dropped jigs with BG mayfly about 2-3 feet above them. We would bounce the jig, jerk the jig or sometimes move it a foot or two and let it fall. Some bites were fairly hard but most of them were little taps and you had to be on your toes. Hey...it worked for us.
Great day and we'll be back to collect that limit....soon.![]()

Good report ! Thanks for sharing.
Nice mess of fish and a good report to.
Congrats on a great trip. Looks like it's on there. Like the technique, that's a real challenge in that kind of wind for sure. WTG
Most excellent! Congrats on a super catch.
