I live about 15-20 minutes from it and go there often to test out small motors I have been working on. However, I don't extensively fish it nor have had much luck either.
Based on my visits, I would not go in a canoe or kayak anytime in the warmer months as there are not many places to escape boat traffic. It is a really small lake and there are always a handful of people out in big bass boats or testing out ski boats or jet skis they may be looking to buy. There is also a guy who lives on the lake who has a huge wakeboarding boat he drives up and down the lake all afternoon every Saturday. Gets annoying when he drives by you every 10 minutes.
Last time I went was a couple of weeks ago and the launch area was way down. It was even a little difficult launching my 16' flat bottom by myself due to ruts and holes from people having to back farther in and past where the gravel ends.
I'd appreciate any tips for crappie fishing the lake though.
Thanks for the info Scout. I knew when I had been fishing there one time in my canoe and a big bass boat about blew me out of the water. I had wondered if there was a HP limit on it like Catoma. Sounds like with the stumps and water being low it is better now than in the summer for a kayak.
Despite it being a backup water source (I think) it has no HP limit or rules against swimming and other things that would go along with that.
The lake can get sketchy at times when their is a lot of boat activity. They improved the launch a couple of years ago so where it used to be difficult to launch even small flat bottoms, now people can easily launch large ski boats fairly easy. It often gets really crowded with folks who are using it to work out kinks of a boat that has sat for a while or are testing out a bass or ski boat to buy.
Big shell cracker in it. That Crappie I caught there wasn't big. But may have changed. Lots of large bass in it.
My mothers neighbor had several bass between 3&4.a couple pushing 5.
