    Default Millers Ferry Crappie

Taking the wife and son over for a couple days @ thanksgiving. We will be staying @ Roland cooper state park. Not looking for honey holes, just asking is it better to troll or fish brushpiles this time of year? First trip over to that area. We normally fish the Jones Bluff area. Fishing has been slow this year over there.

I'm upstream about 17 miles and have been finding them since early October in the lakes around submerged brush and treetops. 6-12' of water fishing close to the bottom. Catch four or five and move. Seems like jigs have been as good as minnows. Best was a Bobby garland baby shad in electric chicken. 1/32 oz head unless it's windy. Heard the catfish were really hitting the shad fished under jugs also. Haven't been in two weeks but guessing it's better now. Good luck!

One tip might be to stay close to the campground. I caught a limit a couple years ago 100 yds from the campers. Had to hold my rod low and get them in the boat fast to keep from drawing too much attention lol!

    For local entertainment/nightlife:
I can highly recommend a trip to see the art at Black Belt Treasures in Camden and if you get the time a meal at Gaines Ridge Supper Club (it's a regular restaurant) in Camden also. Great food in one of those big plantation style homes that is probably decorated beautifully for Christmas. Call both places before you go as times will vary

Spent 3 days fishing out of Roland Cooper couple a weeks ago. Found fish on brush poles in main river channel! 25 fow. Drop shot minnows worked best. Caught very little tightlining minnows in pine barren or buzzards roost! Campground is great!!!
