Default Kayak Trip Report, Swan Creek WMA

I made a short trip after work today to Swan Creek. Single pole on a few laydowns and tossing a 1/32oz white twister tail spinner on my ultralight pole. I returned a dozen Bass and nine Crappie, but the gills were crushing my spinner. I returned a hundred plus Gills and kept a limit of Bulls Gills and Shellcrackers. The wind was howling, but wow what a great afternoon on the water.

Nice job Ditch. Where did you put in the old launch site road was blocked off last weekend and you would have to carry a kayak a good distance. I guess the water is up now it was way down last weekend. Road out there with my kayak and looked it over but mine is way too heavy to lug that far and I don't have a cart fixed up yet.

I was fishing the small slough off sandy road near the Carpenter Technology Plant. It connects to the main Swan Creek area via a culvert that goes under the train tracks. I might make a short trip tomorrow early to pick up another limit for the freezer. I cooked half of todays limit for dinner tonight, hard to beat fresh gills, corn meal and some hot grease.

By the way, most of these were 9 to 10 inches so not all that hard to clean.

My son and some guys he works with went up in White Springs and caught some nice gills I believe it was Tuesday about dark..he brought the cooler by the house to show them off. They were in the 8-9 inch range also. I got the wife to help me load the yak a few minutes ago, I will be head out early tomorrow morning.

Great catch. I have a question about the launch site. Is the water up enough where you don't have to wade In the mud up to your knees to get in the kayak ? Also do you fish the middle with all the bushes or the edges around the banks ? Only fished there 1 time last year and the water was way down, making it very difficult to get the yak in the water. Thanks

Had the gills hitting hard yesterday on Guntersville as well. WTG, its sure fun when they hit those spinners.
