    Default Busted at gville dam

I usually dont post about peoples mis fortunes but for once i feel like i got my moneys worth from the Marshall county game warden Kevin as he busted 3 guys this week fishing below guntersville dam in a boat for having 33 sauger, 31 of which were under sized meaning they were not 14 inches or better only 2 were go figure!!! Given how long its been since you could even catch a Sauger(JACK) I hope this will keep a few from keeping under sized fish. All of those fish would have been legal this time next year and also would have spawned this February. According to the report the fine will be in excess of $2000 and possible jail time for poaching. The sad thing is the game warden had to keep the fish for evidence and could not place the fish that were still alive back. But on the good side they do not go to waste as once they were entered in as evidence, with pictures and such I was told by Tony of Cooleys groceries that they were taken to a nursing home to feed them.
Anyway as to the conditions below the gville dam they still have 13 flood gates open for some reason. All the water around the bridges up in the lake is down almost 1 and half to 2 feet. Guess they are working on the winter pool low level. The bank bridge fishing was slowww this morning ,only kept 2 caught 7 more but only about 7 inches worth of crappie in them HA. The fall of 2016 looks to be a bumper crop of fish given the number of small fish being caught this year under the bridges!!!

Game Wardens are spread mighty thin but sometimes they luck up. All that water they're releasing will be heading this way.

Thanks for sharing. I'm always thankful to see them out checking since I do my best to follow the laws.

We've all seen the clowns filling up a bucket with 6 inch fish. I wished we had about 10 times more game wardens.

Glad they got caught. I was born and raised here and fished this lake every chance that I got till I moved away. Finally made it back and appreciate the GW doing his job and protecting our fish and game.

Another contributing factor to the lack of sauger in the system. Glad they got those guys. Hope the word gets out.

I am tickled that these guys got caught. I have been an avid sauger fisherman for many many years. But lost them about 6 years ago and with bad health haven't been able to search.

At least I'm glad to hear that some are still around. Can you say where these guys had been fishing? Around the dam or at the bluffs?
I would love to catch a couple more before I go.

Glad to hear and I wouldn't classify them getting busted as a misfortune either.

BTW, how do you even catch sauger? I have never fished for them nor known anyone who does. I'm just curious.

Tight-line bait jigs tipped with minnows. Usually in or near deep river channels or holes and below the dams.
