    Default Kayak Report, Lilly Pond

Not Crappie, but I decided to go back to Lilly Pond today and clean a few more Catfish out of it. I only got to fish for about four and a half hours before the rain chased me off, but left with 36. I don't think I've ever seen a slough so loaded with catfish before.

Good haul. I think most people have gotten like me I don't like cleaning catfish. Plus I can go to Top of the River and eat all I can for 12$ . I still clean some blues every year because you can't buy them anywhere. They do sell blues at the store but they Don't taste the same

I passed most of these on to friends and coworkers, especially a few that have gotten a little to old to catch and clean fish. They still enjoy dropping them in grease and eating them though. I kept a half dozen packages for myself, but I prefer Crappie.

I enjoy dragging jigs in this slough for Crappie and have done well over the years. The one trip I made this year ended with a couple dozen Catfish hook ups, several break offs and one broken pole. It seemed a good idea to reduce their numbers a bit. All of the larger Catfish had either shad, stripe or Crappie in there stomachs, most in the 5 or 6 inch range.

These were caught drifting chicken liver on jug lines, 18 inches deep in 3 feet of water. I got a lucky drift Saturday, just the right speed moving east to west long ways down the slough.

I plan to get back to chasing Crappie this weekend.
