Default Ok fellas question for all you slab slayers

I recently paid a guy and we went on lake jordan my intent was learning. How to use my hummingbird 999 the guide used a 1199. Now I see how he used the side imaging to find structure then the down and 2 d to see what was on it. I immediately tried the say tactics on the alabama river and I noticed the things I thought were fish I saw the shadows. In the river the fish were all suspended I didn't see many holding tight to cover. Any thoughts on this.

I know some guys that fish Mitchell and they catch crappie and bass out in open water suspended like you are describing. Personally I have not but I don't have my side imaging tuned in. I may have to hire a guide to take me out to show me how also. Do you consider it good money spent?

Big Tiny, I went and watched the day of the crappie masters tournament. Most all of the boats was fishing for the suspended fish you are seeing. They were pushing poles , of course. They were fishing the flats on the side of the river. I don't fish this way. A friend , vertical jigs the lay downs in the river, but I have no luck this way. I shoot docks & pitch hidden structure on the sides of the river. This time of year is tough, with the water temp @ 94, & boat traffic.

Big Tiny, take what you learned, time in the seat will help you more than anything. Also get someone in YOUR boat, show you how to adjust YOUR unit and even if you have to hire them it will be money well spent. I to am learning the SI game, in my second summer using it, and it has made me more productive no doubt. Read, read, read, and all of the sudden the light will come on like someone flipped a switch, at least it did for me.

top photo on left side looks like interference. Where do you have your transducer mounted? If you don't mount it on the VERY bottom, not the step, you're going to get side interference from the motor foot.
