Default Question for the Alabama guys

Hi gentlemen. A few friends and I travel down to mud creek every year in early May to fish for bream. I've never fished for crappie down there before. I'm wondering if anyone crappie fishes that Area? I'd assume the they would be in post spawn mode. What technique do you guys use to catch fish that time of year? Pull cranks? Fish deeper brush piles? Bridge pilings? Night fishing? Are they mostly blacks or
whites? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

There are crappie there in Mud Creek. The girlfriends first two came from there both 14" fish. Allot of Crappie.com Members around there. I mostly fish Town Creek/ Bellefonte. The next finger of water off the river toward Scottsboro.

I know exactly where your talkin bout. We've caught some really nice flatheads right around the mouth of town creek on the river. Always plenty of bass guys to contend with. How will you be fishing for crappie round the end of this month first of May? Would night fishing be worth trying that time of year?

Night fishing should be good. There are also some sunken bridges in Mud Creek that may hold some day time fish. The crappie stack up at the ambush points when the water starts to flow. The bridge by the launch and restaurant is a popular place.

I will be in a red and white kayak or the Stratos with a 150 Johnson on the back and a Crappie.com hat on my head.

I did really well in Mud creek back in the fall, caught a few good limits. One day I caught 90 keepers and kept 30 of them. They were still biting when I left. No telling how many I could have ended up with. Usually I do not crappie fish Mud around May, I generally bream fish. I do think you could catch a few crappie on the edges of the grass or around the bridges. I think a small jig would probably be best, even a keystone minnow like people use for bream.
