Went to Bankhead this morning. Caught 21 on minners, riggin. Water temp was 46 degree's fish were 15 feet deep over brush in 25-30 fow. By the way if anyone knows why they are apparently trying to drain Smith lake dry someone fill me in. I cant remember them running so much water this time of year. It has been rolling the last couple months. It's is impossible to fish the river with it running so hard. My trolling motor cant keep up with the current. Thanks superfly.

My wife lets me buy all the rods and reels I can hide.
Not a bad trip at all. I've also noticed the current being awful every time I've been this winter too. We haven't had near the rain we had last winter and Smith's level has been right where it's supposed to be. Did you catch any of them on the main river channel? I haven't found any in the creeks. I may need to go down river to the big creeks and try it. My 55 lb thrust wouldn't have been able to do anything with that current without having a dead battery in an hour.
sjprkr1, No I have not caught any on the river channels because every time I've been the current is roaring. The fish I have been able to locate have came from slough's and eddy's. If you can find structure that works as a water break such as a large log jam. Or maybe the back side or down stream side of an island with reasonably deep water. Say 15 feet or so. That's what works for me right now. I'll be glad when the water stops running so hard. It makes it difficult for those like me that enjoy fishing the river channel. I will help you out any way I can. If you have a question, I'll do my best to answer. Tight lines, superfly.
