Smile Big Creek Lake I need tips for my first trip

As you can tell by my name I fish from a Yac so I though it would be a good idea to ask a few questions before making plans.

First, where are some allturnative places to put in closer to the dam. All I need is access to the shore and a place to park nearby. It's around 6 miles from fox landing to the dam.

Also, what is the best baits to go with, live or artificial?

And last but not least, ( I'm not talking about you honey holes) where are the best places to find white perch, crappie, sun fish....? If not specific at least maybe some general pointers.

If you see a yellow Yac with me and my 8 and 9 year ol' son come by and say hi..

I havent been able to fish BCL any this year, but you should be able to drift in the creek channel where the shad are and pick up a few.

Use light line. I caught fish in BCL last year trolling with pink and yellow jigs. The fish are VERY finacky. I have been killing the crappie in the rivers so I haven't been this year to the lake. Reports from friends have been grim.
    Good luck.

Here are a few tips I have learned over the years fishing for crappie in BCL: (1)light line 6 lb max (2)fish structure in water at least 20 ft deep (3)wait 3 days after front moves through or they have lockjaw (4)if moon is bright at night, crappie will not bite at daybreak…wait till at least 10AM. (5) fishing is best when water temp is below 65 (6)windy days are better…especially south or southwest wind…north wind just stay home!

I can't believe I just shared most of my secrets :-)

    Bassfishrman,

Believe those tips are good for all crappie fishing bodies of water, regardless of water clarity or structure available. Thanks for the reminders!!
