I decided to try something new today. I found an area south of Courtland called Cottonwood Pond. The area is connected to Lake Wheeler normally, but is cut off during the winter drawdown. It took me a little time paddling and dragging my kayak over a beaver dam, but the area looked good from Google earth. Once I got into the area the deepest water was only about 12 or 14 inches deep. I decided to drag a few jigs anyway since I was there. The hole was still full of trapped Crappie. I kept half a limit and tossed back another 15 or 20 Crappie that would have measured along with several bass, stripe and catfish. Surprisingly all the Crappie were thick, fat Black Crappie. The water was very muddy so I use pink and pearl Bobby Garland on a 1/16oz jig head spider rigging 6 poles. Good day.

You are da man!
Heard of people catching them in Swoopes pond to.
I put in at Swoopes to get to Cottonwood and fished Swoopes for about an hour or so before I left, but didn't catch any. The wind had gotten up by then and dragging jigs in 20 feet of water isn't really my thing, LOL.
