Hey! guys & gals, I am heading over your way this weekend for 3 days. Just one of those issippi boy trying to expand my territory a little. I have always want to try some Alabama water.
I have a friend that has a cabin on Lewis Smith lake just out of Jasper, Al. Bring the boat and the Crappie gear, but don't know any thing about the lake. Can anyone give me some information, as to the kind of fishing is best there ie: Spider rigging, long lining, or crank baiting. Feel free to PM me with any good tips on baits/colors. Don't want your honey hole, but any information will be welcome. Thanks in advance!!!!!
Deep and clear lake, try to find some brush piles or blow downs and fish with minnows or throw jigs around boathouses.
Thanks, Mullery. It sound a lot like Bay Springs here. The fish in that clear deep water are down around 15-18 fow, I would guess. Sure going to give them a try.
IMO Smith Lake is the hardest lake in Alabama to fish. Very deep and very clear cold water. I would drive a little further and go to the Coosa River lakes or Guntersville.My![]()

Sorry about no one answered you right off not a lot of guys fish Smith on here. I would go to coosa river or Guntersville but Smith might be good. I've been doing well shooting docks on all the lakes in my area.
i know one person who catches crappie off a lighted dock but only at night on smith lake. i have been on it once but not fishing. it is a beautiful place but i understand fishing is not easy.
Better bring some crappie with you !
