I went to Logan Martin yesterday afternoon, fished from one til dark. The wind was ferocious for a while in the afternoon, died down by around 6. I landed four keepers, biggest was 12.5 in. Lost a couple more at the boat. I caught the fish between 16 and 18 feet down. I only caught fish between about 2 and 530 or so, before the sun really started to go down. I had the same thing happen when I was out there last week, it seemed like the bite shut down about 530 or so. Are the fish moving shallower later in the day, or what?
I didn't see very many fish on my depthfinder in the areas I'd been fishing after about 530. There were a lot of fish and bait around 7-9 feet down, but i couldn't get them to bite.I don't know that they were crappie. I did manage to pick up one short fish about 8 feet down right as I was leaving in an area that was a little shallower, but no more. I caught the two biggest fish off of the same brush pile, but without a gps unit I'm having a really hard time staying on spots in my kayak. I'm still learnin, and enjoying it.

It was fat. No eggs either. How deep are you catching fish right now? The water temp was around 85 degrees, and in looking at it on the map, i'm fishing a cove within the creek, not where the creek meets the main river. Do you think i'd do better fishing the junction of the creek channel and main river?

The last couple of weeks I have caught them from 10-20 feet deep. I think along any drop off regardless of location may hold fish. In my opinion most of the fish will have now moved out towards the mouths of the creeks and the river channels. If the creek itself is a pretty large body of water, with good depth, it will hold fish year round. I think on Logan Martin in the summer time the boat traffic gets so bad the fish will move out to the river channels in deep water to get away from all the activity. Of course this is just my opinion with no scientific facts to back it up. If this rain lets up I may try Neely Henry tomorrow, haven't been in a week now.

There is quite a lot of boat traffic in and out of the cove i've been fishing. When I was out there last thursday, a bass tournament launched out of one of the landings there and about 15 - 18 boats came screaming full speed out of the cove past me toward the main river. I kinda thought I was a goner out there in my kayak. But they saw me and scooted around me at the next to last moment. Thanks for all of your advice. Good luck, let us know how you do. Went back to Logan Martin yesterday evening. Got there late, my buddy and I didn't get on the water til about 6. I was showing him how i've been spider rigging in my yak. I'm sure we looked like two of the three stooges out there foolin around. But we caught about a dozen, managed to bring home 7 keepers, only one of the fish had any real size to it. My buddy lost a nice one right at the kayak. Brought a marker buoy this time and marked a hump in the area i've been catching some fish. Fish were scattered around the shallow hump. Caught a couple fish on top of the hump, a few on the drop off, and a few in the deeper water next to the drop off. I managed to catch fish later in the day too, so I feel like i'm learning a thing or two. Caught fish from 14 - 16 ft then when the sun went down more caught a few about 8 ft. I still am missing about as many bites as I'm catching. The fish were coming up on the bait yesterday, i feel like half the time i wouldn't know there was a fish til it was already gone. A couple times my rod bounced once, I set the hook, and it was already gut hooked. The full moon came out and the wind died down completely by about 8 and it was quite peaceful out there.
