Good report PU b ,I do have one question and you may have said and I missed it but how fast were you pulling the cranks especially when you were running them 85 to 110 ft back??Bandit 300's list a deep depth of 8 to 12 ft. I keep thinking id like a 15 ft depth on some of the deeper ledges but have found nothing in the 2 inch size that sez it goes that deep. Guess we could go to down riggers HA .We usually try to keep it at about 1.8 mph. Also do you know how long your batteries will pull you before they run down?? My buddy and I are not getting but about 4 hours out of ours(we use 2 29s interstate) and they are only 1 year old .When we bought them new last summer we could run 6 hours and still have juice. Very disappointed if they have worn out in such a short time. We are looking at getting a Kicker motor to assist and still wondering if something else is pulling them down quicker. We are running them on a Minn kota terra nova

The 300's will run down to your needed depth of 15' with the proper amount of line out and a speed of 1.8 mph. 8-12' is the depth for a standard cast and retrieve.

Yep, I run bandits that deep a lot. Been running out 120 foot of line and bumping bottom in 16 foot water running up on the ledges. Caught some down at 20 foot today in 31 foot of water but we had to add weight for that one.:biggrin

I was pulling at 1.6 and 1.8 throughout the day. Last time I went my Interstate 29's lasted between 7 and 8 hrs I guess, but this time they started giving up at about 6 hrs and I could only get 1.4 mph at 10 on the Terrova, but I also had a passenger this time. How much boat and how much total weight are you pulling? I'm satisfied with my batteries, especially considering the last 2 hrs we didn't really catch anything to speak of and were just wasting time trolling around a new area just seeing what was there to be seen........which was a lot, actually.

Right now I'm concentrating on finding more areas that will consistently produce fish. I've probably doubled the number of areas I fish this year, and if I could add 3 or 4 more I'd be confident I could catch good numbers of fish any time I hit the water, save for the few times that it just isn't gonna happen......no matter what. I gotta quit this job, it's totally holding me back from fishing all the places I want to try.

WOW thanks a bunch "G,Rees and PU.I had notice the longer we put our lines out, it seemed the longest out always gets the bite!! PU I agree my buddy and I need more areas too as we bout run our few areas where we catch fish (sometimes) to death, I think although its only about once a week due to work we hit them. The biggest problem is since we got the one day we get torn at taking a chance to look for new areas or hit the proven ground!! I agree Oh to be able to fish first work second HA .There are 2 of us in my fishing buddy's 20 ft boat thats got a 115 4 stroke engine hung on the back. and I aint no light weight, weight wise,(grin) while my partner is average in size .We had the same results as you are getting with the batteries late last summer but they are giving us half that the last 2 or 3 times out. Yep when the Terra Nova hits 10 you are bout done!! THanks again guys for the helpful info!!!!

Well I went to the Big G yesterday to give it a try. Boat traffic was off the charts and so were the rollers as a result. Did not put a single crappie to the boat, only stripe. But, I did manage to eliminate some water and found some great structure later for spider rigging. I guess this is going to take longer than I thought to figure out.

Well Bob dont be frustrated ,my buddy and I have been right where you are on the learning curve and havent moved much either (grin), looks like Pu may have to give us all beginners lessons!! Also unless you like the sensation of being on the gulf of mexico ,you have to fish the big G early on the weekends and leave once you have counted 4 jet ski's .they usually dont show up until between 9 and 10 am.Monday thru Friday its pretty much ok as far as boat traffic is concerned .One Danger in the early morning fishing on the weekends is dont get caught in a bassmaster wanna be blast off line of fire!!!! these usually occur at either 5 , 5:30 or 6 am although one was at 630 last week.

Midday crank bite was rockin on the G today (both the boat and the fish bite). Managed 30 between 10:45 AM and 1:00 PM. Had to leave before I lost my cool with a couple boats.
