    Default 24 Apr, Guntersville done?

Got out on the water, and the wind, hoping to pick up some crappie. It was almost a total bust. Fished from 1000 till 1730 and caught 2 crappie. Couldn't keep the bream from hitting, but they were mostly small. Water temp was 68F in most places and the wind was relentless. Has the spawn come and gone? I hit all of my usual hot spots with little success. I found fairly large schools of fish suspended in about 12 feet of water in the deeper channels but nothing on the treetops. We tried drifting over the schools, but nada. Is it time to move down to Wheeler?

Just my opinion, but I hardly think its done. The water temp may be 68 on the surface, but its not a stable 65 degrees. I do think the black crappie are spawning because they come in a little earlier. The white crappie I don't think has even got started good yet. I do believe when it happens it wont last very long though.

They have been very segregated for me this year. I have found crappie several times in a 20 yard area all to themselves with brim on both sides, but only crappie in that 20 yard area. No mix of brim/crappie, just crappie in most small areas I've found. And some times a lot of crappie, we're talking limiting out in 2 hours, in these small areas. But you cast outside the zone, it's bull brim.

Definitely not done yet on Guntersville. 13 of the 14 whites that I caught today had eggs.

That is amazing! I have not caught a crappie on Gville in the past 4 days that was bulging eggs. Caught a few with some leftovers are ones that will probably not lay but not still bulging like last weekend. Just did not find the right spot I don't guess. I did see a monster crappie spawning in about 1.5' Sat night while bowfishing
