Gonna give it a try tomorrow long lining.....this will be my first time to do this. I usually cast jigs or shoot docks, but decided over the winter to buy some rods and holders to try long lining. I need all the help I can get, tips, tricks, what to look for and possible some areas to try. All PM's and open messages to the public will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I would start out in Canoe Creek. Just go in there and look for all the other boats and do what they are doing. What we do is put on a jig, I like 1/16 th. oz. but sometimes have to go smaller to keep from staying hung up, we also tip it with a small minnow, then throw it out as far as you can behind the boat and place in rod holder. Keep the boat moving with trolling motor at all times or the jigs will fall down and all hang up. You will have to determine speed but I like 0.7-0.9 best. Good luck and I will probably see you out there.

I have never tried putting a minnow on when long lining. Don't really need it, but was wondering if maybe you could target bigger fish with a minnow on . You hook it thru the lips?

Yes I hook them through the lips. By hooking them that way they come through the water in a more natural way like they would be swimming. Since I tournament fish some I am usually looking for bigger fish and I think a bigger bait helps at times but not always.
