    Default Spring Fishing Trip Recommendations

    Hey Guys,

I just joined and boy I can't believe how much good information there is on this site.

Anyways, I'm going on a week long crappie fishing trip with the family the first week of April. We used to go to Weiss, where we usually do really well but we are just looking for something new. I originally thought we would try Sardis or Grenada in Mississippi, but after doing some research I realized that there are no houses on them. We enjoy being able to stay at a house and relax by the lake and staying in a hotel takes away from that. Besides we love fishing off the dock at night so we axed those lakes out of question.

Now I'm considering Logan Martin Lake in Alabama or Clarks Hill Lake in Georgia. They both seem like great lakes. Does anyone have any input as to which lake is better? I realize that these lakes are no where near each other and most people probably haven't fished both of those lakes, but if you have input on either lake it would be appreciated. We particularly like to troll and fish docks as you would at Weiss. I'm really looking for a place where you can catch a lot of crappie with the chance of catching a 2+ pound fish. We once went to Lake Hartwell and Grandpa didn't catch many fish so I'm trying to keep him happy.

Let me know if you have any other lakes that are worth some research.

    Thanks!

I fish Logan Martin don't know about other lake. Normally first week of April is pretty good however in my experience I catch bigger fish in February and March but you can still catch some big ones. Looked at my log from last year and did real good that week even with a few bad weather days. As for where to fish if you can find a place around lakeside landing you will have no trouble knowing where to fish you will see plenty of boats crappie fishing. Don't normally shoot docks but think its good that time of year and see several folks doing it in that area. Fish will probably be in the 2 to 8 foot range that time of year.

That is great advice! Now I'm getting amped up thinking about fishing. I'll see what I can find around Lakeside Landing. I'll definitely take February and March in consideration for next year...just gotta get Grandpa convinced it wont be too cold. Thanks for the input!

My wife has a friend who rents a cabin on Logan Martin. I can PM you the info if you want me to. She may already be booked but it is worth a shot.

If you like to troll and fish docks Logan Martin is a good place. In my experience not a good place for 2 pounders though. You will catch alot of fish around docks but they run on the small side. We catch 100+ a day but will average around 30 keepers. Good Luck

Going to be hard to beat Guntersville but Logan Martin is a nice place to catch fish.

I definitely think that Guntersville is pretty hard to beat if you want a shot at some really big crappie, but I'd hate to have to try to figure that lake out if I had never fished it before. I still get stumped from time to time over there.
