Anyone fished Bankhead recently?

Heading to the good old "Skunk Me More Times Than Not" Warrior River tomorrow. Anybody know anything worth sharing? I've heard that some folks were catching limits in the last couple of weeks and I don't believe a word of it unless they're using gill nets. Anyways, I'm going to throw jigs and drown a few shiners around the tops. That's all I know to do. I'll post my results.

About 10 years ago we fished the Warrior with the Alabama Crappie Association. We launched out of Franklins Ferry and fished up and down river from there. Several times this time of year we found the fish up the creeks suspended around submerged trees about 10-12 feet deep in about 20 feet of water. These areas were out towards the middle of the creeks away from the banks. Made a little money catching those fish so it brings back good memories. Hopes this helps in some way and good luck, give us a report when you get back.

Well I managed to get about two and half hours of fishing in this afternoon before the wind finally made me surrender. Only caught 5 but they were solid keepers, 11"-12", fishing minnows 4 feet deep in tree tops in 12-15 fow. never had a bite I could feel on a jig but the boat was moving around so much it was pretty much impossible to slow roll a jig through the trees. I'm gonna try again tomorrow and post some results. And thanks for the input RogerA.

sjprkr1, I fish Bankhead almost exclusively. I have the most luck spider=riggin the ledges on the main river channel. I have been catching a few lately but no limits. If you want to go one weekend just hit me up and I'll share what I know. Good luck from hear on. Superfly.

Thanks for the input man. My fishing trips are often spur of the moment but I hope I can make that happen one day! I would love to learn about spider rigging. All of that aside, some things are more important than crappie, I just happened upon another post from you and have to say best wishes to you and your's man. Hopefully the next post I read from you is good news. I'm rooting for y'all and thanks again.

Thanks for your support. Maybe we will get an answer next week as to what it is. I'm praying it turns out to be nothing serious. The not knowing is the hardest on me right now. Here's a little update from today's (Saturday) trip. Caught 8 more including a 15 incher. They were all caught around 4 feet deep on the very ends of the tree tops with minnows and a couple on jigs. The good news is they downgraded the hurricane conditions that I was fishing in to category 2 by the end of the day. Here's a picture of the chop, which was over 2' under Copeland Ferry bridge.
