Default Life after the Tornado - WalleyeBob goes to Decaturs Y

    5-7-11

Well here it is almost two weeks after the tornado and still NO electric (told it MIGHT be 2-3 more days). So let’s go fishing, the day started at 7:00 at Decatur AL. at the Y with a mild wind from the south. Fishing was a little slow (fish must still be in shock from the tornado) the water temp was 68 – 70 degrees – high and muddy! Miss Cathey naturally caught the first Crappie – 11” nice fish. We caught 8 more ranging from 2” minnow of a Crappie to the 11 incher. Then out of the blue WAM one hit my line with a vengeance and I thought man it must be a cat but when I got it to the boat it was a really nice Crappie 14 ¼ - 1lbs 14 oz. really nice and fat slab. Well I thought here it goes they are turning on but it was short lived that was the last fish of the day. We where using Minnows by themselves and a Bobby Garland jig (chartreuse) tipped with a minnow – method used was long line trolling.

Yep, saw you in there WalleyeBob. We fished in there pushing minnows from 6-9:30, had 3 keepers and made a run down river and caught a couple more. Come back about 2:00 and started pulling jigs and could not keep the fish off. They were not all good fish but it was a change for the rest of the day. We caught about 30 that were 4" long (never caught that many fish that small in a trip before) about 30 between 8-10" (all released), 15 between 10-14" (kept these), and 5 over 14" (released these). Add about 15 catfish, 10-12 white bass and 2 big ol drums and it turned into an interesting day.

This is off-topic, but what kind of boat is that callshy? The layout in the back is different from the bass boats I'm so used to. It looks pretty comfortable for that type of fishing.

It is a Ranger 620DVS Fisherman series. It is the walleye boat they use on the Great Lakes. Works great for crappie fishing, more floor and less deck.

Thanks guys and callshy I have a deep V and that is the only kind of boat I would have - it can handle rough water and have comfort to boot. I fish in 1' of water for all types of fish but as the name implies "WALLEYEBOB" i love Wallies "FISH ON" Guess what I do not fall out of my boat.Thumbs UpName: Bob's WalleyeTrip 2010 063.jpg
