    Default gville or weiss?

Me and a buddy are coming down to fish for a few days from from 3-8 to 3-12. It's a pretty good trip for us (about 6 hours) and I was wondering which lake would produce the best fishing next week. Couple of years ago I fish weiss about this time and had the time of my life, then made a couple of trips there last year and didnt do to hot. Just wondering if you guys had any suggestions on which lake to fish. Thanks for any info you might give.

Weiss has been hot lately! I dont fish for crappie on Guntersville but would say by the time you make your trip it should be good also! Good Luck and let us know what you do and maybe we can help you get on them when closer to your trip!

Difficult choice. Both lakes are good. Weiss lake will warm up a little faster than Guntersville. They are so close to each other why not try both. Fish one for a couple of days and then go to the other. What type fishing do you like. Weiss is great for long line trolling and Gvile is better for fishing cannal ledges and casting to bridges and structure. There is no grass to deal with in Weiss so I think its easier to fish. Good luck.

Honestly, in reference to Guntersville, it can be overwhelming if you haven't fished it when it comes to crappie this time of year. They are on the move, which means they will be moving away from the bridges, up into spawning areas. You can catch them by the bridges still, but nothing like the slugfest you'd experience other times of the year. Unless you know these routes the fish are moving on now, which change day to day in reference to where they stage, you will be seeking more than finding. This is the most fun and rewarding time of the year, though, for me, but I've fished the lake for 42 years. I don't know much about Weiss to offer any sort of reliable advice for this time of year, but since this is right before the spawning moon, you may be better off where you've fished before.

Your advice is greatly appreciated, my buddy is a diehard bass fisher so I think we are going to fish on guntersville a day or two and mostly bass fish and try to find a crappie here or there, but it sounds like to me that the best place for me to do well crappie fishing is weiss. Our lakes in East Kentucky are NOTHING like the ones down there, and it sounds like weiss is more beginner friendly. Again thanks for the information.

That's cool that you're going for bass on Guntersville. I really think overall it's the best bass lake in the world. Keep a crappie jig tied on a pole and toss it a few times and you'll find the crappie, too. Right now I've found them moving together. Since you're coming and fishing that way, I wouldn't be surprised at all if you just stay on Guntersville. The bass, brim, strip and crappie are all pretty close together right now. Find one, you'll find the others nearby. You'll do great, let us know about your trip. Here's a helper on the bass, check out this very recent article:

I agree with larrydavid G ville is the best bass lake around, and if you find the crappie they will most likely be the biggest slabs your ever put in your livewell.

I was planning on coming down and fishing Tuesday morning, but with the weather ( lots of rain and snow on the ground here) I know the weather there is bad as well, I was wanting to get some opinions on whether I should postpone my trip for a couple weeks or do you think the fishing will be ok. Thanks for your comments.

Well brother, Im from Ky and my buddies and I are heading down first thing in the morning. One thing I've learned about fishing in March is that if you wait for days when there hasn't been a storm or a storm on the way you'll never fish a day. I was wondering the same thing you are but I guess I'll go down and figure it out. Seems like mother nature always seems to get her way in the Spring.
