Thread: crawfish trapping

Anyone ever do any crawfish trapping. I would like to try it and wondering where to begin. I am in the huntsville area.

All info is appreciated

They sell crawfish traps at some wal-marts and cheese works well for bait, or you can use a fish head. We used to catch them in small drainage creeks.

Are you going to eat these crawfish or use them for bait?

drainage creeks and fish heads are number 1....weve had alot crawdaddys for dinner...Has anyone noticed the taste difference between soft shells and hard shells

Crawdads are easy to trap. Take a can of cheap dog food and punch it full of holes with a "church key" and put it in the trap. Drop the trap in a drainage ditch or a cattle watering pond that would be too small to hold many fish and check it the next morning. You'l know real quick if you have any mudbugs. Fishheads will work too

Well thanx for the info i put a trap out this morning in a small creek by the office to see what will turn up.

mighty i caught a nice snake this morning on a bream lol. We use to catch some huge crawdads when I was a kid. The almost looked liek small lobsters. I have not caught any in 20 years though.

Sorry to bring up this old thread, but I was wondering if anybody had an update or pics on how the trapping went?

I am also curious to how this turned out!!

The trapping did not work but I did find their hide out off county line rd. i think it is called black swamp. Every time I go it is only little ones but maybe i will try it again in march.

We have caught quite a few crawdads at blackwells swamp go down to where the runoff of the swamp runs into the river and load up.
