Default Mallard Creek and Mrs. WalleyeBob

Well guess what we did not make it to the tail waters below Guntersville Dam, so that will have to be next week. Instead the wife’s day on the boat took us to Mallard Creek for some Crappie fishing it was a little cold out side and Cathey got a little frozen in the morning. With the outside temperature before 1-2 P.M. hovering around 55 or so – with the water temperature at 56 degrees it was a little bit on the cool side! Bite in the morning was slow, we could not keep the Yellow bellied Stripes off our lines we did catch about 6-8 small Crappies and three keepers. Then in the afternoon the sun finally came out and I was stripping down to my _ _ _ _ _ _ (had you going huh) my shorts. We caught some more small ones, and then boom “FISH ON” Cathey got the best fish of the day like she always manages to do. Mr. Crappie would be proud of her 1lbs 10oz 15 inches long. We where long lining all day with anything and everything, but used a cork with the 1/32oz jig set back about 6 foot and Cathey’s HOG HA! HA! Hit on a light blue grub looking thing tipped with a minnow. I caught mine with a Chartreuse Southern (_ _ _?) and one on a Spin Daddy Bronze colored spinner with a light blue grub. All in all we had a great day just being out there fishing! If weather holds off tomorrow I am going up the Cotaco hunting for more Crappie!

That's how I've been catching my crappie WB, dragging jigs tipped with minnows under corks behind the boat. Not very hi-tek, but it works!

Yep!!! That is the same technique I have used for Walleye in Denver - Wyo - Minn - Canada all over but just did not use a minnow. Have used shiners - leeches - crawlers and usually rigged on a bottom bouncer (walker) that is a term you do hear very often.
