I live in Huntsville and do my fishing at Madison County Lake mostly sometimes venture out to Guntersville / Sottsboro areas. Was wondering if you guys had a secret sauce or other attractant? I am thinking that going from the blister packs on jigs and other artificial baits directly to the pond may not be the best choice. I hear of people using WD-40 on their lures was wondering what else I might try to keep my lures in and cause them to be more appealing? Thought I would open this thread as just a what have you tried kind of thing and do you feel like any of it worked? I don't know how sensitivene fish are to odor but it must play a role.

Fish will definitely hold onto to a bait longer with scent.and I have tried garlic favors but I'm not convinced that it has help me any.

DO NOT use WD40, it is a petroleum product and not good for the environment. There are lots of scent products out there that are safe and will help and are not very expensive.

I'll caveat that I cannot prove the effectiveness of attractants. It's more of a faith and experience thing IMO. It is likely to frustrate a user that was given advice about a product and didn't get the same miraculous result the person who gave them the advice did.

Some days, the crappie don't care what color or bait you use - they will bite anything. Those days are rare for me but sure fun when it happened. Then there are those days when the bite is slow or I can't seem to get a hook in one. I tried this product called Slab Slobber and I do think it helps. I think the fish will hold on the bait better and probably will turn an indecisive fish into a biter.

I use crappie nibbles when the fish are slow, have tried several others without much luck, its kind of like a chevy and a ford thing just depends on what you like and have faith in.

Over the years I have tried many different scent products. The 2 that seem to work best for me have been Crappie Nibbles and Slab Slobber. Many folks new to crappie fishing not knowing any better seem to try fishing Crappie Nibbles by themselves on a hook and that is not the proper way to use them. They are designed to be used as a scent to tip other baits with. This is just my and is just an opinion. Everyone enjoy your fishing when you can.
