Winter Bream Slamming
Anyone fishing for BreM!!
-
I Always carry a bream pole & worms! Crickets are out of season & are hard to find. You would be surprised at what you can catch! I use the small bream for trot line / Yo Yo bait. The dang Catfish are TOO plentiful on my 800 acre NW Ms Oxbow Lake, thus I have been trying to help Mother Nature balance them out. Catfish are eating up all the smaller shad, thus there are many smaller (1 - 2 lb) Bass.
In shallow (4 - 6 ft.), stained water, it warms up pretty fast. Water temps this time of year running 45 to 55 on an average day, but with sunshine & warm south wind, it will get up to 60! Sometimes I use a small (1/24 - 1/32) crappie jig, a "Bream Bug" or a Minnow teaser from Arkie Jig. I catch a few crappie, small bass & catfish on these rigs.
Come join me anytime!

I was able to get out in my community lake/pond yesterday in my tube...air temp in 70's, water was cool but not too bad. Caught 13 nice coppernose bluegills in about an hour off one spot, all on bead head nymphs under a tiny bobber with my fly gear, 3-5 feet of water....fished from 1345 - 1545 total. Good times for the first day out this year!!!

Unfortunately no...it's a bit dicey to try to take pics from a belly boat when I'm by myself. Tomorrow if anyone else is around I'll try to get a photo or two of the ones I catch then...
