    Default Pond gills

Got out yesterday fishing the ultralights and started out using a monkey milk little swimmer on a 1/48 chub on a #10 hook under a weighted float. First fish was the one and only crappie to small for a picture. Gills were hitting really well as were the small bass. Main problem was all the vegetation that has floated up to the surface, cleaning hooks on almost every cast. Got tired of them pulling down the soft plastic swimmer and tied on a mallard duck jig for the rest of the morning. Between the two caught over 30 gills mostly in that 7" range.Name: IMG_6956.jpg

Good numbers make it a fun day .
Pond fishing can get messy at times .
I’m surprised a big mama bass didn’t try to take one of your gills away from you .

Very nice. That's the only negative to fishing plastics that aren't glued on. Panfish will nip and tug and pull them down the hook every cast.

Seems this is too much trouble for anyone to try, but NO soft plastic slides down no matter how many fish caught:

Note: for 1/64 oz or 1/32 oz jigs I go to a smaller wire gauge. (bottom ex.)
Note: I buy no-collar jigs or remove the collar. Less damage to soft plastics.

I also use the same wire to hold my trailers in place:

I rarely use soft plastics, prefer my little hand ties but wanted to start with something different since I had a duck jig tied on the rod. Usually carry a bottle of super glue in the tackle bag but recently bought a new cooler which I turned into my new tackle box so no glue in the cooler. Cooler doubles as my chair, getting older and need to sit for a little bit. Standing on those rocks along the dam are tough on the legs.

Very nice pans. Loved the colors on the last one.
