Both of us learned how to troll for speckled trout along time ago before we started that technique on crappie .

That's a loaded question. Ha Ha! It would literally take me days to tell you all that I have learned about trolling crankbaits. I started back in 2016 so I've been at it for quite some time. My best advice to you is to start where I did over on the Mississippi board. Go read the sticky at the top of the Forum "Cranking 101". That's where I started. It took me a couple days to read it and then re-read it. Other than that I'll give you a couple of quick pointers. Depth is the key. And by that I mean getting your lure back to the same depth the fish are at repeatedly. For that I say line counter reels are a must. Rods don't have to be anything fancy. I say the cheaper the better. Lures, I prefer deep diving lures. They run on shorter lines which makes turning easier, i.e. less tangles. Bandit 300's, Bill Norman Deep Lil' N's and Arkie 350's. 10# test is all I use. Swivel clip on all my rods which makes changing lures easier and undoing tangles. Don't believe what they tell you, it does not affect the action of the bait. Color, the fish will tell you that during the course of the day. Speed, I generally stay around 1.4-1.6mph. Water temp & clarity, this is very important. Water temp is best above 70 and it is best to have at least 8-10" of visibility in the water. So you want stained to clear. Now this applies to what I have learned fishing here locally. The last thing I will leave you with is the i-Pilot. That was a game changer for me. I started out using the outboard with a trolling plate and sometimes the old foot controlled trolling motor. The i-Pilot allows me to fish hands-free. I hope this gets you started in the right direction.

I tried different speeds. Thanks for the reply.
