As much as I like the Legalis LT2000s-p, I'm not quite as thrilled with the Legalis LT1000D. Don't get me wrong, it's still a fine reel -- it's just lacking in a certain kind of "tight and smooth" feel that the 2000 has.

Chalk it up to Japan-sourced (LT2000s-p) vs. domestic (LT1000D), maybe? The 1000 came as a part of a Legalis combo (the Legalis UL rod is actually a pretty solid all-rounder) I purchased when I got back into fishing a bit over a year ago. The 2000 was from Amazon Japan, and somebody (maybe here?) had posted about those LT2000s-p's being marked down to $63...which I couldn't resist. The 1000 is also blue and silver vs. black and gold on the 2000 model.

I have the blue and silver ltd 1000 domestic as well and it’s not comparable to the Japan lt2000s-p. Definitely difference than day light and dark to me !
    Too blessed to be stressed!

This is the first shallow spool i have ever owned. I went with the 2000 because of the spool size. I'm not to sure about putting mono backing on a shallow spool though. Advice is welcome on backing for it.

I definitely use cheap mono for backing line when using braid. This is mainly because I tend to use really fine braid -- Nanobraid 2lb or Xbraid Finesse 4lb -- and only 50 yards or so, at that. Between the fine braid and relatively short length used, it hardly takes up any space on the spool.

I'm reconsidering the length of braid I use for the main line, however. Had a wiper run me out of braid the other week; I panicked when I saw the main line running out and threw my hand of the spool. Obvious consequence was the line immediately broke off at the leader knot. In hindsight I should have just let it run on the backing line (6lb. mono) since my weak points were the lure and leader knots.

The short length of braid I use is mainly me just being a cheapskate and trying to stretch a 100m spool across two reels. That, and my casts top off at maybe 70-80 feet using a "heavy" (for UL, at least) solid metal lure like a 1.5g spoon.

I have tied my braid directly to the spool, which had a rubber area in the middle of the spool. If traction to the spool is needed I’ve also taken a piece of electric tape and stuck it to a piece of glass and cut it in half lengthways. I then put only one layer of the split tape along the middle of the spool and never had an issue and if you don’t stretch the tape it will look the same when you change line in a few years.
