Now that my paperwork issues are in the rear view mirror, it was time for some visits to places from the past. Sam(drdore) met me at the ramp Thursday morning and we were fishing by seven. I don’t think we had anything over 4lb test in the boat. The wind was supposed to pick up by a little after 9 and it didn’t disappoint. We looked for shallows with deeper nearby and started working a shoreline. Took a while and we got bumped here and there but nothing serious. In among a few downed trees, both of us hooked up in short order. Set the boat a little better than it was where we could reach the back with a good cast. Sam had been throwing a rooster tail on one of my TroutX/Legalis rods and I was throwing a white curl tail, I think. We’d found a small bed and one of Sam’s first fish was a nice cracker over 9”. Lots of drag music on that one.
.
Some nice gills came from there for about 45 minutes and then it slowed so off we went. We got a few more and sure enough, here came the wind. Boat control got tough and the time got on a little and we were both done so off we went. Here’s some of the players from the day. Sam was lucky enough to get this pretty little guy, first one ever to my boat and I hope not the last.
And here’s some of the others.
So with such a successful day still fresh in my mind I had to go to one of the other lakes about 11am yesterday. The lake was much busier than Thursday and the fishing not as busy but still enjoyed the area I haven’t seen in ten plus years. Turned on the side image and eased down a lot of banks but found no visible beds. This lake drops 6+ feet in winter so remnants of last years beds would be tough to find, lots of rocky areas too. I did find some fish that had gathered by some blown down trees but mostly littles. The sandy/small rock bottom had this one colored differently than I’m used to seeing.

And just before I left I dropped one of my black tiny jigs to the bottom and I wasn’t paying attention. When it was time to pick it up it was heavier than it should’ve been so I lifted the rod hard. Then came the drag and the going where he pleased for a minute. Not a giant but a healthy one just under 15”. Got a few more smalls and it was late and I had a nagging feeling I was forgetting something. Then my phone pinged and it was some friends reminding me of a dinner date. To the trailer and gone to a real good catfish dinner. I’ve been a bachelor for a few days while my Queen went to cross stitch with some friends and I guess folks don’t think I’ll take care of myself. Dinner with my daughter Thursday and again with friends on Friday. Can’t beat it. Hope you enjoyed the ride and I’ll finish with a pic of the LMB that made big fish status. Glad to be back where I should never have left, and I thank God for the opportunity he has provided Joan and I. We’ll do this again soon, til then…..Skeet
