Fishing on the boat and not being aware enough of my surroundings. Went to make a cast with the Lunakia and smacked it right into my Presso Air AGS that was in a rod holder. The Lunakia won. Funny thing is I put it in the rod holder because I didn’t want to step on it and break it.

Not sure on best way, but out of the truck and or trailer is common, doors are deadly too , had a spare tire fall on an expensive one myself, and my hooksets on a few other ones as well .
Once had a buddy lose an entire rod canister full of 300 dollar rods out of his truck bed , back tracked for hours looking for it , never to be seen again

“D” must have gone to your school of hook setting. Not to mention your “Sling and Fling” tutorials!

I've broken about $500 worth of JDM tips in the last three years. I'm rough, so it's a cost I have to absorb if I want to fish JDM equipment.

I've got a Tenyru that the tip end is about $160 and I've broken it twice. I will say that the Major Craft rods are much more durable than other high end rods. I broke the tip on my Lunakia...

In about Best way to break or lose an expensive rodBest way to break or lose an expensive rod years I’ve only broken two. Forget how it happened exactly but I do remember it was stupidity on my part. I cried a little bit and then ordered the replacement tips and fished on.

    Regards

Went on a trip to Cape Point at Hatteras with my buddy and his friends. His buddies were in front of us driving down the road when a parked pickup pulls out from a dead stop right in front of them and they had to slam on brakes and several rods got broke. And then one of the guys had an $800 nick's rod, anybody that's fished there knows who Nick is. His friend smashed it in the door and broke it. That soured the night a bit

Default Best way to break or lose an expensive rod

Lost a rod to a car trunk once. Sat the rod down told my buddy, “Dont close the trunk, my rod is back there.”

    Few seconds later, “SNAP.”

    It happens (Forrest Gump voice*)

While my jig poles aren't as expensive as others, I did manage to break a tip off one by accidentally dropping a milk carton filled with water and frozen onto one and then accidentally closed a compartment hatch on another.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.
