    Default Long day

I’m usually a short trip kinda guy lately. Today we got a a break from the 40* mornings and the wind was very low. I didn’t start til about 8 or 8:30 after some stuff had to be done first. One of those I could’ve waited for a while longer. I brought the boat by where I work and used their grease gun to try to grease the tilt pivot on the outboard and the other was the bearing buddies. Motor is going to get the zirc fittings replaced as I believe the grease in them is hard and not letting fresh grease to go by. My left trailer bearing acted as it should but the right one oozed some grease and water mix that didn’t make me happy at all. Left for another day I headed to fish. No wind when I put in but the fishing started slow. Finally found some to chase the skunk as I worked my way back through my office. I just told my queen that today was Bass day. I caught a dozen, maybe more. They were chasing some just hatched minnows with zeal. Most were between 6 and 10” but three were of size but still not super size. Total catch today was forty I’m sure with a lot of them being small gill varieties under 5” but a few were good fish. I brought my Sam Heaton dipping rod and it did well also, getting the biggest bass of the day at about 2lbs. Four good crappie made the rarely carried cooler of ice for a friend who’s out on disability after a bad car wreck. All the others went free. I didn’t pull the boat til 3:30, making it a very long day for me. The fish never really turned off and the temps went to near 70. My queen was off trashing around with the girls so I had no need to run home and it felt great. I took no pic’s today, not even a cooler shot of my friends crappie. I also got visited by three hen turkeys that were magnum sized and the owls sang to me for a while. I heard a few gators talking but saw none, fine by me. Sorry about the pics, I’ll do better next time. Final note, water temp was 56* so I felt that was a good trip for those water temps here. Hope y’all get out soon and stay warm and healthy……..Skeet.

Thanks for the take along . Sounds like fun trip .
I need to get my boat out this year . Even if I have to go by myself .
I can handle the launching and loading , as I don’t let my fishing buddy help when he does go.
It’s so much easier to do it all myself and not have someone standing there short roping me as I back the trailer . .

Sounds very enjoyable. Well except knowing you gonna have some work to do on those bearings at some point. Thanks for sharing.

It was a very good day. One of those days that the time just slipped by and then I noticed that the sun had moved out of the overhead sky. And my opinion on your boat; you’ll do what you’re supposed to do. I fish alone a lot. I’ve made three calls to fill the other seat and everyone is busy. I have a 30’ nylon 5/16 rope tied to the front of the boat and it’s coiled on the front deck. I clip the other end to the winch post and slide the boat in til it floats and then pull forward and tie it off. No one else needed. I’ve done it enough that I have the process stuck in my head and anyone else has to sit and watch so that my OCD leaves me alone. I think that you owe it to yourself to enjoy this time. There’ll be a time soon enough that we will no longer be able to, so git it while we can. Hope the weather lays down for you. Rain all day here and mid fifties for a high tomorrow. Glad I went yesterday.

"There'll be a time soon enough that we will no longer be able to", Skeet is so true. Though I don't own any boat like most here i feel fishing in itself is both reward and taxing at the same time as the years go by....i mean the fishing don't come to us. People and friends often ask why do it and I just show them this:

Sounds like a good time between all the fish and other wild life around. Time sure seems to fly by. Weather here is putting a hurt on my fishing season, only able to get out once. Pretty cold right now, 5 degrees F so the streak of no fishing days continue.

The pie bills around here have been stuffing themselves with up to twice the size of the one in the photo! I saw a green haron eat a bluegill almost hand size.
