Default ACE MR&T Project History Video Big 4 Included

I found this video this morning. It explains why & how all the history of the flood controls of the entire Mississippi Valley came into being. In 1927 was a massive flood killing hundreds. The Big 4 Lakes are part of this project. The History is very worth watching.

This video provides Understanding of why the system was built not just the Knowledge of it's existence.

The flood of 1927 was one of the largest flood ever. There is a book by John Berry called Rising Tide The Great Flood of 1927. It is from reconstruction through the 40s and Hoover. I just bought 2 more copies. Someone has my first one and one is a gift. It is one of best historical reads on US history. It has about 5-7 different stories through out...Great read.

My wife is the reader, she knew about it from reading the same book. That said I went to public schools, you would think they would mention a disaster like this. Thanks for mentioning the title of the book so others can look it up.

That is pretty surprising considering the area you live in. We were taken on a field trip in the 3rd or 4th grade to the Grenada Lake visitor center and they had a film (black and white) explaining the flood and the flood control act as well as the construction of the lake and levee. Then moved to Greenville, MS for 5th and 6th grade and they taught us about it there also, guess being a delta river town that was severely damaged it was a hot topic still in the 80s. When I moved to N Mississippi 20 some odd years ago none of the folks my age acted like they had never heard of it either.
