I personally enjoy spring and fall fishing the most. Catch the most during summer but they are usually all smaller. Catch the largest in winter. But I enjoy them all. KABOOM!

Some might argue that the best bite is this time of year or that .
Some say the fall bite
Some swear by the winter bite
Some swear it's the spring fling
I tend to think that if you stand the heat in the kitchen
Then the best of the best ketchn is the summer bite ....
of course you got to find them
and be able to tell if it's a bite as well
but to be VERY sure , I got bit at least 50 or more pitches in a row the other day
and the fish were not all potato chips either
then we move onto the it's only a minnow bite
and the etc. etc. etc.
mind you this , the key is knowing if it's actually a bite ....
seen it over and over on LS , crappie in the summer often times swim up to it
and never actually "bite" the jig , they already have it in their mouth and folks never realize it ....
hawkeye that line yawl , never mind the scope when they approach the jig and the same goes for them there blind ketchn fools like me and ....
.... mind you this part carefully folks
individual results may vary quite widely ....
particulars are as follows , only in the shade , only on the fall , 12 foot of water , only on jigs , 5 pm to 7 pm and hot as fire outside even in the shade , bait had to be pitched out and falling back to ya ....
KABOOM
p.s. thats a 100 in the box in 2 hours ,,,,,
AND everything that was really little or really big got set free![]()

I think the best bite...is the one that put the fish on the hook...big or chip size. Puts a smile on my face...Just sayin'

Good thing fish are cold blooded. They could be in 6' or 12' and bite. In cold water they slow down, but in 80 degree water they are hot to trot! Course I would prefer cloudy or semi-cloudy days to bring them closer to the surface, but that's just me. (BTW, I will not fish shorelines - even the shaded ones. Open water and chosen depths to be sure.)
(With as many fish as you take home Ketch, I surprised there are any left!)

Same as another small lake I fish. In the last three outings approx. 180 fish were caught - mostly crappy and sunfish. Being a county run lake, the idiots in charge have no idea about overpopulation nor how to survey a lake. Granted, it's nice to catch fish after fish in areas, but rarely are the crappie over 12". Guess I'll just have to suffer catching large numbers of fish.in a small lake with white crappie in it , there is now way you can do much harm keeping herds of them , it's truly amazing the numbers that are in that spot , we hammer out 100 every week or more and the supply is endless ...![]()

I too have said many times the best crappie fishing of the year is July and August. The thermocline sets up here in the north the first week of July. Sure enough, going out two weeks ago it was right on time.
Find the thermocline and the mid-lake structure that rises up just above the thermocline and it's fish on.
Many many, many fish on!
By myself this past Saturday caught 72 crappie, 25 yellow perch (the real perch), and a few white bass and pumpkinseeds. Only took home 12 crappie. That's enough.
