it befuddled me when it happened and caused me to get a late charge on something that was mailed well before it was late , made me pretty mad at the time , and never could wrap my mind around why the mail went to so many places before it headed to its final destination

Totally understand My friend. Could be why some places says must be post stamped by a certain date, because they know it's gonna be late getting to them...
