Good stuff Mike! I have dropshotted for bass but never for Pannies . Will have to give it a shot (pun intended).

Folks,
I will be the first to admit that in these past 77 years I have been hard headed, stubborn and reluctant to change what I knew to be true. I make no bones about loving to use slip floats to fish especially the pool noodle slip floats that I handcraft.
When it came to fishing near the bottom where 90 to 95% of the fish go to eat, I used to use the Modified Lindy Rig or the Carolina Rig to fish the bottom. Last week, on Tuesday, a fellow friend and I decided to go Perch and Shellcracker fishing. He said he could use a drop shot and out fish me five fish for every one I caught on the Lindy Rig. I accepted the challenge.
Well He out fished me seven to one and I was converted. I spent the next four days doing nothing but looking at You Tube videos on Drop Shotting panfish. I am hard headed and stubborn no more. Just saying.... If you have not done the drop shot fishing from the bank, you are missing a great opportunity. You can cast farther and reach the deeper weed lines on the bottom of the lake where the fish eat. Tie your lure on the line with a Palomar knot and then put the tag end back through the eye of the hook to add your sinker on. This makes sure that your hook faces upward and will catch you more fish.

Great post, Mike!
I consider myself an “eternal student” and plan to keep your drop shot in mind.
I have a lot of opinions, and I know some of them or wrong. The problem is, I don’t know which ones they are. LOL

I have been drop shotting brim for several years now.
Exact rig you speak of.
I just use whatever split shot depending on wind, grass, bottom cover, etc.
Even converted the method to fishing sauger here in the river.
I cut the hook off old ball type jig heads and then use it for bottom weight.
Sauger almost always very close to the bottom and in rocky areas.
Thanks for sharing and being a convert!!

I used to rig similar to that back in the 80's and caught a lot of fish. Got away from it in favor of slip bobbers but I need to try it again. Another awesome way to fish near the bottom is a Hali jig or something similar on a medium light rod and a reel spooled with 4# fireline. Drop to the bottom and bring it up a foot or so. Love feeling the thump when they hit.
The older I get the more I realize the therapeutic benefits of fishing

Cutting the hook off and using old jig heads is a really good idea. Yesterday I located a swarm of them and the drop shot wouldn't have had time to hit the bottom. 18 casts 18 hookups in a row.
