    Default help from experts needed


    Just wondering if anyone can help be identify this bass I caught Saturday. I am no expert on these things . From looking at several pictures I can't find one that is just like this one.

    well he was chomping on schools of minnows lol. And he hit my crank bait before I started pulling it!! he was in shallow water maybe 2fow. If he had moved out about 10 feet into deeper water he could have had shiners 3 inches or more for a long time.

    So far it seems spotted bass is the going determination. Can anyone tell be why spotted and not Alabama bass? My brother says Alabama bass (he considers himself an expert on all things fishing related, LOL) This is a learning experience for me.

    On a closer look I now think Alabama bass is correct. A spots jaw will extend to just below the eye. The jaw on the Alabama is shorter. This one is clearly shorter than than below the eye.

    Just looks like a starving Largemouth to me. A Spotted Bass would have darker "spots" below the lateral line, but the clincher would be if the fish has a tongue patch.

    That is a Large Mouth bass but looks poor. I agree with Crappiepappy

    I’ve caught a ton of Spots. As has been mentioned…did it have a tooth patch?? From the photo you can’t tell about the dorsal fin…which is different between a Spot and a largemouth. Hard to say with info at hand but I would say skinny largemouth.
