14 to 18 foot of water , not many male fish in the mix ,pretty close to the bottom , ok bite early for an hour or so .
49 degree water temps .

I am still not sure about that part of the puzzle , high numbers of breeding channel cat maybe ?
they stock the lake all the time with small ones and they are probably making good number of catfish fry ?
but there is no doubt about black being the key , any other color just don't get bit ....![]()
