I find 5-6 for rods work best if casting and using an umbrella. The longer rods for jigging are ok I guess but I stand when jigging and it’s hard to stay shaded. The longer rods work well under the umbrella when trolling. I really enjoy and need my Millennium umbrella, it keeps my wife cool so I can fish longer.

    And……done.

Shame the parts are so expensive. The umbrella pole slips in and is wedged against the seat back for a very snug fit. I envisioned a sudden breath from God lifting my umbrella up, up, up and away. I imagine the lake bottom is no stranger to the odd umbrella. I may have to secure it another way but it seems like the umbrella would fold before it could pull free.

i can simply leave the assembly on the seat and add umbrella as desired. Probably keep the umbrella in truck during transport.

Buckeye’s wife needs shade and so does mine. I always feel guilty wanting to stay out when it is time to get her off the water. Left the big ones biting one day because of it.

I have fished off boats with bimini tops and they are great except for the fact that they are always in the way. Long rods can only make things worse.

Tropical Storm is a dud but everyone is calling holiday hours and remaing closed. What a bunch of wimps. What will they do when we get real drama.

Wife was sent home by her boss, so now I must entertain her instead of pouring more jigs.
Maybe they will bite this one……

I have a question, and it’s not a criticism. How’s a come you put the spinner behind the body instead of directly behind the head? Does it work better or worse or have you never tried the other way? I think they’ll catch some regardless.

I just think this is nicer than any sort of bucktail I could tie up. Underspin about where one might expect to find the tail.

I really like the spinner hung out the back end but cannot figure out how to adorn that area without fouling the blade. Gonna try ordering a product called Mend. It ‘glues’ plastic baits back together. $13 for an ounce bottle. You add a little where the bait has been ripped, push pieces together and hold for a few seconds, lay it down to finish drying. I could cut a slit into a plastic worm or big grub, slit down the center about half way through, slip over the swivel and hook shank and Mend the slit closed. Add Living Rubber legs down the sides to the plastic bait shaped like the GoodYear blimp. Mend will also be useful for me whilst on the water if I experience a tear and wish to save a really good bait from catastrophic loss. Yes, any bait getting damaged is a good bait. .

So my arsenal will now be 1/4 oz, 1/8 oz, and 1 1/16 oz jigs, some with spinning blades, some with Stroll’Rs, some curly tail grubs, some paddle tail, and some odd ones. These will be in multiple small boxes aboard the boat. I intend to have a prep box, too. I will have jigs I want to use already on the rods, and a small box of a few selected jigs as my firsts for swapping out. I will have multiples in each size of each color and each style of bait. Gonna be a while before I can get back out there as work has been hectic and demanding and my weekends are toast. I want to test my seat umbrella, wooden staff, new rods, and new reels, and new baits, and such and well work always comes first.

Yes sir, I can totally understand that work comes first bit. I was what a lot would consider a career soldier. My job (MOS, Military occupation specialty) was as a Cook. Now back then you were a line cook, baker, meat cutter, Ration specialist, ( order, receive, store, issue and account for all foods),So do the work and the fishing will always be their when you can go...

A member sent me instructions for painting Pony Head jigs. He thought it might convince me to try them again. The issue that caused the original problem being keeping paint off the swivel. I still suck at it, so today I ordered a new mold.

Do-It’s Herring head with under spinner in the smallest size. Killing myself getting under spins and plastic baits to get along by using odd homemade attachments. I think it was a new design about six years ago, and it will make my assembly easier and better.

The herring head itself is OK I guess, but just look at that clearance between the blade and hook shank. The angle the blade is aligned with is perfectly straight forward with no odd angles for the swivel to try to operate under. Means maximum action, which means more action going slow that a jig where the swivel is at an angle trying to spin anyways. Which means more vibration when pulled at same speed. Also I suspect I will be adjusting the angle the wire juts out to bring the blade in closer. Gonna try smaller swivel and smaller blade than pictured.

I think I do not wish to have that prong thingie though. They tear the plastics. I might just ignore it, might trim it after pouring, or I might fill with gasket silicone stuff to plug the lead.

Not sure the eyes will be situated any better than what I am currently making. Looks like the jig must be skinny in order to have the draft it has. Definitely a mold worth acquiring. Six cavities from 1/16th to 1/4 ounce. Insertion of wire forms might be tricky but they are not really necessary unless it is to be a spinner. Blade in tight up against jig body bound to make for a better target.

Mold will be here next week, and yes,,,,,you will see all about it. I suspect that the keen eyed that have come before me are old hat with this 5 year old design. I can attach just about anything to the wire loop thingie. A small fly flipping about behind perhaps. Extra hook dangling maybe. Sandwiches.

The tail spinner is nice but a no go for curly tail grubs. Belly spinner good with grubs but a lot of effort and the swivel is under strain from being at an angle and that will limit the rate of spin. Same issue with Pony Heads. Make a real difference when going slow. The straight back pull has got to be the prime here.

I plan to cover the hook eye with tubing and allow powder paint to cover the extension. I am going to try different swivels on that extension and differing blades, and colors, and be able to tune these to run true even with a misaligned plastic bait. That and bring the blade in as close as possible by simply using pliers.

I don’t know how large my chenille collars are going to need to be, in order to push the tails back behind the hook point far enough to avoid entanglements.

The jig heads should track through the water in a more sleek fashion. Might get some wobble out of them, too.

I am excited to get my grubby little paws on that mold.
