I think it was just before the year 2000 that I came upon Crappie.com, and even though I'd been fishing for Crappie since back in the late 1950's I felt I could always use more info and so I joined. In the year 2000 I started the Spring Fling & Fall Brawl deals as part of my (then) normal Spring & Fall trips to Watts Bar Lake in East Tenn. I didn't want them to be actual "money tournaments", so it was made into a "prize only" deal, with the prizes coming from Sponsors of Crappie.com & even local businesses. The fish fry that occurred was the secondary draw to these events. That went on for 5yrs. And I've since then restarted the Spring Fling event here in KY at the Green River Lake ... drawing in people from many other states, Slab & Billbob, M R DUX & rnvinc & others from the West KY contingent.
Since I first started posting back some 20+ years ago, I was struck by how friendly and "well acting" the members were. Then some troublemakers came along & tried to upend the sanctity of this site. I asked Ed if, rather than just report these people, I could be a "stealth moderator" and help him clean out the trash being posted. And I was granted that request, and for a few years deleted language & photos unbecoming to the site and banned members that stepped over the line a little too far or often. Several upgrades & format changes later I was given Moderator status (in full view of the membership) and have moderated the Main Message, KY state, and Cooking Crappie forums, since. A few more upgrades, format changes, and site expansions later I'm a Super Moderator (along with several others that Ed has the utmost confidence in to protect the site). I'm thankful & grateful for the opportunity to be of service to this site for all those years, and hope to continue to be of service to the site & membership for years to come.
I just don't have the words to describe how being a member has enriched my life, expanded my circle of friends, or helped me become a better sportsman, angler, or person .... other than to say it's been wonderful & I've had a great time doing it.

This is me.sometimes my posts do not come across the way I intend. (Sometimes they do
) I found this site looking for a place to escape the pressures of ministry and continue to learn about crappie fishing. Like the others, I am richer in knowledge and poorer in finances because of this site. A special benefit has been the escape from other forms of social media during the pandemic and political upheaval. There is so much hatred and vitriol in our world today. It’s refreshing to read and interact with people who are kind and generous and polite.
God bless crappie.com.

My father passed in 2017 from cancer. We used to fish a lot together even did some local bass tournaments. After my father passed I really regretted not fishing and spending as much time with him. I had no idea he would be taken so soon from us. I thought about all our fishing together, our memories and what I enjoyed that I missed the most. It wasn't the tournaments or big fish it was the times we found a bush or area holding those crappie and them thumping those tiny tube jigs. I loved it! That is what made me happiest and I enjoyed the most. So I decided I would start fishing again but with focus on crappie. Close to the same time my wife was wanting to get a kayak for pleasure. So kayak fishing became my goal. I quickly researched affordable fishing kayaks and decided on the Lifetime Tamarack for me and Lifetime Tahoma for her. Basically the same kayak mold but tamarack has more fishing features. I wanted to increase my knowledge on crappie and quickly found Crappie.com online. Without hesitation I signed up and have been welcomed into a family of like minded folks. This is the friendliest and most knowledge sharing group I've ever found online. Some truly wonderful, generous and sincere members here. Now 4 years later I have my buddy and his wife kayak fishing and my two daughters ready to go. I've upgraded to a pedal kayak with new electronics. I'm powder painting and tying my own jigs and have more materials and baits then I could ever use. I love supporting our members. Crappie fishing is my stress release and special time I think of my father. Having two young girls (ages 3 & 6) I go crazy in the house...lol. I hope to share with my girls the love of fishing like my father shared with me. I have them wanting to tie jigs but sharp hooks and feathers without serious adult supervision is a no no with them. My getaway for each week is fishing and Crappie.com. I love participating with this online family. Reading successes and failures, the great stories and photos. Participating in giveaways and looking at the beautiful jigs and baits the members make. Some of which should be framed on a wall.... absolutely beautiful. Crappie.com is the first thing I look at in the mornings and last thing before bed. I monitor it daily at work and home. It is a part of my daily life and I'm blessed for finding it. I thank Ed for creating it, "G" and all the moderators for helping and keeping it family friendly and one of the best places online.
I’m a relative newbie as well, and I have learned years worth of tips in a fraction of the time. Thanks Slab for a clean site that sticks to its mission and keeps it fun as well as informative.

I visited this site often for a couple of years and finally joined on 08/05/2008. I have learned a lot here and made lots of friends here. I have met and fished with a good many of the members. One year I fished in 6 different states besides my own. I have attended crappie camps and get togethers and the fun and fellowship is outstanding. I even got up at two in the morning one morning and drove 12 hours by myself to go to Florida and fish with Billbob and Slab for a few days. On one weekend crappie camp at Okatibbee lake in MS. Team Geezer was founded. These are the original members of Team Geezer from left to right...ScottV, SteveJ, Hook One, and me "G". We had a lot of fun with Team Geezer for sure. Hook One was my best friend and was my hunting and fishing buddy for 45 years....He recently passed away and will be missed. The friends that I have met through Crappie.com make this a lot easier for me.
Crappie.com is a wonderful site and I do everything that I can to keep it spam free, and family friendly and kid safe for everyone. Its a rare site now days that you can look at with your grandkids and great grand kids and don't have to worry about them seeing or reading something that they shouldn't. You don't have to answer their question...Paw Paw what does ****** mean etc. We have great Super mods and mods here and all help share the load in this.
My wife likes Crappie.com because it gives me something to do when the weather is too bad to get outside and do things. I would say that I enjoy Crappie.com.....but I DON"T.... I love it !
Thats my story...and I am sticking to it !

Although I began crappie fishing over 50 yrs ago as part of family outings, I am a relative newcomer to CDC. After retirement, I wanted to spend more time fishing and learning to be more productive on the water. Saw a reference to the site on one of the crappie tournament trails and began to read the posts. Joined a short time later. CDC is the most informative site that I have found. Members from around the nation share information/pics on trips, techniques, presentations, etc. It is well known by the membership that CDC is the cleanest and friendliest site on the web. I know that this did not happen by accident. It is this way because of the hard relentless work put in by Slab, G, crappiepappy and the other moderators. Thanks to them we have a site where we can find the information or answers we are seeking without have to navigate through alot of garbage.
Congratulationson 25 years!
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a retirement plan...FISHING!
My early vote for the prize winner right there. Amen!

Wow 25 years! Since joining this site I have very much enjoyed reading, learning, comparing, and contributing. I have decals on both sides of my modest boat, and t-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats from Crappie.com. My brother and I have placed very well in the crappie tournaments here, and have one win. Funny story is that you know how stories grow; well sometimes you hear things like oh that's that crappie expert from back east, or that guy can catch crappie with that super long pole when nobody else can. Here's to another 25 years!
