my grandpa used to use a real long cut sapling and use cotton line and a hook like we used for halibut
a big yella grass hopper and if the fish was to big to swing , he would just run up the bank and drag it out
and i aint kidding , when I first tried to teach him how to use a zebco , every time he hooked a fish he turned and ran with it
i sure wish i could have had video of us back when , good stuff for sure
the time he got in the tug a war with a big blue cat close to the bank was hilarious
the fish wasnt giving up much and pop wasnt letting it get away either
man were them 2 entertaining ....
and yet another time he drug a black bass about 7 or 8 lbs up the bank right out of sight into the bushes.
i was like pop why dont you fight em , he just looked a me like i was crazy and said ....
i only go fishing to ketch fish to eat ,not to play with them son ....

There are times when it's EASY and there's virtually nothing that mattered and anything will work.......
It's when those tough times hit that even the smallest of small details will help you catch more and bigger crappie......
To "consistently catch crappie" you'd better be willing to give all the tricks of the sport a try.....
ALL post when the couple two or three times a year nothing mattered and the crappie would hit a bare hook on kite string..... How many trips were taken where that live well only held water or that cooler only held ice???
    Be prepared and prepared well......

You bring up an excellent point, anglers tend (probably always) to remember the trips when the fishing was very good and put the times they got skunked or caught very few fish out of their minds.

less than fun is often less memorable ,unless it is really really not fun .....watching some fella next to you sling em like he is at a barn dance while you get zero bites is pretty memorable i would bet

But, did they get zero bites because they were using hi-vis line?? They probably don't remember that part of the experience!

Well, I suppose if you didn't have bad days, you wouldn't appreciate the good days.
