Just got some reptile rubber and am practicing tying in legs. Having a little trouble getting them to lay right. I guess I just need more practice.

One thing I do is set up a practice hook with a thread base, or some chenille, then practice placing legs on it, wrap it, unwrap it, and go again. Helps me get a feel for the material and what kind of angle I need to work with. Good luck.

If I want legs on a chenille body jig, should I put the legs on over the chenille, or put the legs on first?

I would imagine you would tie the legs in first then the chenille but I haven’t played much with legs... I am late to the game but here is a squirrel tail jig I tied...

Yep, I tie my legs on first and then weave chenille on to get the legs laying correct. It will come with age ole practice.

No squirrel tail, but I just got in some reptile rubber and wanted to tie some of Sonny's (LedHead) auto jigs. Here is my first attempt. I don't have the head right - I think I need to tie first, then split the rr after tying. There is no video for this, so trial and error it is. I think the bream won't mind if they are not exactly like his...

PS the reptile rubber is the medium size. I ordered from lurepartsonline and RR directly, and the medium matches Sonny's I am pretty sure.

Those look good to me and the rubber looks right. I agree I think the bream will like them too.

Squirrel hair semi-auto. Can't wait to try this out on them huge 'crackers. I'm getting better at legs!

A couple hours of work. Yes, I am slow. Going fishing as soon as weather permits.

I can only give you a little info on working with the rubber. The tighter you pull the more it will flare. I tie it in for a tail tight to hold it, then back off the tension some as I get towards the exposed part of the tail and it lays straighter. A few half hitches along the way helps me sometimes to hold what you got right when you get it right. There’s a learning curve but it seems you’re doing just fine so far. Those jigs remind me of sonny’s a lot.
