Boy, does that bring back memories! I remember the two spools on the 300! But yeah, all these new reels have ample storage capacity. Probably saves them from having to supply 2 spools! In any case, when I get a new reel, I always part way pre-fill it with some inexpensive 6# test line and then finish it off with the line that I'm actually going to use.

    Thanks for the memories!

    This ^^^^

Walmart sells the Zebco Omniflex line. You get about 300 yards for $1.74.

Amazon has 1/4lb spools (~3000yds) of 4lb. of CXX from $11 to $17 (green - blue - fluorescent). Original Copolymer is $13 for a bulk spool.

izorline is another option. Copolymer line lasts forever.

Always buy in bulk. I am partial to Stren. 4# on the small reels, 6# on poles with floats for crappies. Walleyes gets 6& 8#. With so many reels 14 buying in the 300 yard spools would break me. The only reels that gets all new line are my ice fishing reels since they are small and only hold about a 100 yards. Rest get half a new spool at a time. The only time I buy the small spools of line is when I use 2# test on the ice fishing reels.

I am a line nut, I have spools and spools of line, trying to find the best one. In the end- I like the Kast King Copolymer line in 4# and 8#. I also use 2# and love the Berkley line.

Good tip! I've made the mistake of taking off too much line and not taking off enough. I'll keep this one in mind the next time I need to change out.

That's interesting. I just ordered a spool of Kastking Copolymer line. Be here Monday. Recently got a Kastking Round level wind reel too. Really like it. Much nicer than I expected!

If the reel is small and it probably should be if you use 4 lb test on it , then it shouldn't hold 300 yards if its mono from my experience?

It is a pretty small reel.I wouldn't use anything heavier than 6# on it and now that I have 4# 6# is history!
