Thread: Glass or aluminum boat

I have glass and the fellow I fish with most often has a nice aluminum. I prefer the glass on the TN River because we tend to travel some distance on the water and I like the security of the heavier boat when the wind gets up. I think the glass fishes better but there isn't anything wrong with aluminum. It boils down the where you fish and personal preference.

I have a 2oo4 polar kraft about 18.5 feet long. I fish alone a lot and just pull the boat up on ramp or bank and don't worry about scratches. I also fish some small lakes and bump stumps all the time. Glass boats do ride better but I can fish all day on a couple gallons of gas with 70 hp 4 stroke...Boat glass and tin have their advantages.

Love a skinny water boat! Had the big bass boats and now plain Jane G3 1648 and catch way more fish!

I say what every you can buy that’s the newest, with the set up you want. If its a brand new tin boat over a 6 year old glass boat, that warranty alone is a decision maker for me.

We have the Ranger 188C (Alum) and love it. It does get pushed around in the wind a bit, but I would say that's the only negative. The rod locker is actually 8 1/2 ft, which is harder to find than we realized. We carried our 8 ft BnM poles with us when we were shopping & were hard pressed for them to fit in many advertised 8 ft rod lockers! Also, we like how easily we can push our tin boat in and out of the garage to hook up & park, this factored very importantly in our decision. If we ever live where we can keep a boat in a dock, we may consider a glass, just too heavy to manage right now. Fishing wise, we troll jigs & pull cranks and dock shoot a whole lot and the alum works out just fine!

It looks like I am going with a 2013 xpress x19 with a 175 Yamaha on it.
