Pretty cool Ed. I go down to Okeechobee every year fishing with my uncle & cleaning the fish every day turns into a bird circus. I'm not sure what species they all are but we will be completely surrounded by birds of all sizes. Some of them at least 4 ft. tall. So cool to see the different species. As long as you don't make sudden moves they will be right next to us. Makes the job cleaning fish much more enjoyable. That doesn't happen in Kentucky.

I worked and lived in Okeechobee for a year and loved watching the wildlife. My job was actually to sit on an airboat and spray lake weeds. Got to see all kinds of cool stuff down there that you just won't get a chance to see in Alabama. The birds were some of my favorites. Sandhill cranes strutting around in the front yard. Alligators in the backyard. Gigantic frogs hopping around. Armored catfish wallowing our holes in mud banks. We really had to watch out for snail kites. We had coordinates in our GPS that had known Snail kite nests and under no circumstances were we allowed to go anywhere near them.

Don't know why those Snail Kites are so endangered, there certainly seems to be a ton of apple snails for them to eat everywhere down here.

We don't eat the pets. They are so funny. They root around in the sandy soil here for grubs and worms. We really enjoy them and the rest of the wild life here.
