Doctors Phillip Gawthrop and Charles Han went fishing with me for Red Breast Sunfish this morning in spite of the rainy forecast. We hoped to find the fish still on beds and we did find a few before the rains came early and we decided to quit fishing.
We caught our fish on a variety of small plastic baits on 1/32 oz jig heads. I had luck early on a green tiny crawfish with orange pincers, and then we caught fish on Gold trout magnets, Pink Lemonade and Black Itty Bitty Slab Slayers. When the panfish slowed down, we threw 2.5 inch pearl minnows for spots and Dr Phil caught about 3 before we decided to quit. The rain had just started and although we had on rain suits, we knew that heavier rain was close by.
I have to tell this story on myself this morning. I live about 10 miles or so from the Riverpark boat ramp and we were to meet each other around 7 AM. With this being a holiday, I left the house about 5 minutes early anticipating some heavy traffic, but there was no one on the road so I was making great time on the way to the boat ramp. About 1/2 way there, I looked at the clock on my truck and saw that I was going to be quite early and I had an unction to go and buy gas for the boat and still have time to meet the guys. Instead of obeying the unction to get gas, I decided to just buy gas after our trip this morning.
Everyone showed up at the ramp and we launched the boat and had about a 4-5 miles ride down river to the spots that we wanted to fish. We had just gotten the boat on plane and I noticed that my gas gauge was sitting below empty. I have never seen any gauge accurate on all the boats that I have ever owned, so I thought that we would be okay. We made it down river and fished the 2 plus hours before the rains came. When we decided to quit, we put the boat on plane and started back up toward the ramp. When we were about 100 yards from the ramp, the boat ran out of gas. Thankfully, my Terrova TM powered us against the 46,000 CFS that TVA was running and we were able to put the boat on the trailer. You will notice in the pic of me and the boat that we ran out of gas about 1/2 way between the boat and the red buoy that you see downstream. Thankfully, we were almost home.
The moral of the story. When the Good Lord reminds you to do something, then by all means, do it and you will avoid embarrassment or trouble or some other malady. Grin. Note to DK: learn to listen more carefully to the inward witness. God knows a lot more than I do about everything.

Nice looking catch, one of my favorites. If it ever quits raining I'm taking the fly rod and ultra light out for some panfish.
A 1 or 2 gallon plastic gas can takes up very little room. Has saved me from a long electric motor/paddle trip more than once. Just be sure to keep the gas fresh by refilling each time you gas up.
