    Default Lake Murray Striper

Well I talked my son into playing hooky from school yesterday. He is valedictorian and is done with all exams. I had a light day at work , so we went fishing ! We were after bass on lower end of the lake. Of course, we couldn’t find any again!!
But, we did find loads of striper ! Had one of the most epic days of topwater fishing in years! Multiple doubles and I even caught two at a time once. Every point we hit had herring and stripers blowin them up! Released 36 total, up to 6lbs. Lost 6-7 others , and missed a ridiculous amount. Great day we won’t forget. Sooner or later I hope my bass fishing skills show up again. lol

Wow, that looks like one great day of fishing! I enjoy catching fish no matter what they are and stripers like that fight harder than about anything else you can catch. You guys must have been worn out after a day like that and top water fishing is a blast when they are hitting. Also, congrats on your son being valedictorian, that is quite an honor. Hopefully he has a nice scholarship lined up so you don't have to pawn all of your fishing stuff for college.

Very nice indeed. A few years back my buddy and I found the strippers on Santee in a feeding frenzy. In one of our most memorable days of fishing, we boated 56 strippers that morning, followed by a double limit of crappie that afternoon. Congrats to you and your son, a memorable day for sure.

Ha! Thats true! Luckily he does have few scholarships so far. Hoping he gathers up enough to cover the rest of his college when he hears from all of them. Right now he has been accepted to the USC honors college, and granted in-state tuition. That helps a tremendous amount be out of staters. Fortunately, USC is right near Lake Murray. I will find plenty of spare time to run down on weekends to take him fishing, when he is free. Has plans to study Internal Medicine, so he will be a while. (He`s much smarter than me).

That reminds me of a joke I heard from a comedian one time. He said his son was about six and really smart. He read books all the time even at that age and was great at math already. Friends told him he should probably be a doctor which meant lots of school so he should start saving his money for his son's education now. The comedian said he bought the kid a Playstation and told him to put the books down.

Those rare days of catching is what keeps us all going back for more. Looks like the two of you definitely hit the right spot at the right time. Congrats to both you guys on the fish AND getting to spend the day together doing what it is you love doing.
