    Default Saying goodbye

Wow. Sorry to hear about your loss. It's certainly tough to lose a loved one, pet or otherwise.

Thank you all for the kindness and support. I know many of you know this but the dog shaped hole left in a family at times like this is a void that can't be filled, no matter what you throw in it.

We lost our dog and my fishing companion, Scamper, four years ago on June 10, one day before my daughter's birthday. He was only 8 years old, but that's about right for an outside dog in south Arkansas. It hurt us all to see him go, but we knew his time was near and he couldn't get better (heart attack/ failure due to heart worms).

In time, we got another dog and now Bookey (rhymes with dookey) is part of the family. We still miss Scamper, though and will never forget him. Scamper was my fishing buddy and absolutely loved eating squirrel tails, but Bookey is more refined and is much more of a Mama's Boy. My son says he's a weenie!

You guys had 13 years with your beloved Max and I'm sure he was the lucky one out of his brothers and sisters to have been part of your family. Stay strong and know that he had the best family to love and care for him. That's how I had to explain things to my kiddos. Thanks for the post and please accept my condolences for your loss. GTT

Always hate to hear these things, been thru it way too many times myself. Not quite as bad as losing a human family member but sure can run it a close second. My sympathies to you and your family sir

My family would say that I'm not a very emotional person. And they would also say that I'm not the greatest pet lover either. But I'll have to say I've shed some tears over losing a couple of my dogs in my lifetime. I really do feel for you. I wish things were different.
