That's the way to do it, if you wanna mount the fish then keep it by all means, but we don't have to keep all these big spawning females. I've been guilty of throwing everything over 12 in the livewell for awhile, it's almost became an automatic reaction. This year I'm keeping the scales in the boat, so I can catch, picture and release. Mentioned this to my fishing buddy and he laughed and said he was keeping all his, if he catches any, well hey that's his choice, I won't think anything less of him for it.

Can you launch a glass boat at South Graysport at the present water level?

Same thing happened to other sports..I bass fished in the early days..with a ten fish limit..anything over 10 lbs might win..today after, education, catch and release, three fish limits have to be over 20 lbs to have a chance... .turkey and deer hunting the same way..Crappie are a great resource...but it is not unlimited.

Pictures and replicas are great options. Personally,I do my best to take pics of females and release males to the grease. Its that time of the year where it is pretty easy to tell the diff. I live on some of the best trophy catfish water in the country and see a huge amount of 40-70 pound catfish being kept to eat. Hopefully, Missouri will put some trophy regs into place to preserve this resource.

I'm just as guilty as anyone about keeping crappie, but I'm slowly changing that. I'm starting to get back into the bluegill fishing. I know some of yall will say I'm losing my taste, but I've always thought bream taste better than crappie... I love catching those rascal's, and they put up a good fight too. This year is gonna more bream fishing for me...

The average life span and mortality of bass is greater than crappie.
I understand about releasing fish, and have been releasing fish more since purchasing my new boat and having a livewell, BUT if we want to increase the population then we need to release the smaller legal size fish and keep the older and larger. Reasoning is because these younger fish will be going into their prime and live longer meaning they will see more spawns than the larger older fish.
It's a different thought process with some biologist information backing with the data to support. Our states biologist has been speaking to a mississippi state biologist about this topic, growth rates and growing season lengths.

Older females will lay more eggs..hopefully pass on superior genetics..I have no problem with anyone that wants to keep what they need..I personally will throw back what I don't need...I will throw back the larger females that I catch this time of the year...that's just my personal preference
